WAYNESBORO–Kick off the holiday season by glimpsing the tree decorating ideas of local community members at the third annual Land O’ Christmas by WALL Lions Club of Waynesboro in The Counting Room (former Citizens Bank) on Center Square.

The display is open from 4 to 8 p.m. Fridays, noon to 7 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 12. In addition, Santa’s Workshop will also be open during the event.

“This is a free event for families and we’ll be open until 9 this Friday night only,” according to Fern McCloud, immediate past president of WALL, who said she and her husband, Tom, have a passion for Christmas and enjoy being a part of this celebration for the community.

There are more than 30 trees in the display, which was open to anyone – individuals, organizations and churches, etc. – who wanted to decorate a tree, McCloud added. “Sponsoring this is a way for our club to thank the community for its support of our projects.” Tickets for raffles of gifts to help with the WALL’s efforts will be available, with the winners drawn Dec. 12.

In addition to WALL, some of the participants are Antietam Eye Associates, Speciality Granules, Morning Star Books and Gifts (featuring angels to fill out with prayer requests), Waynesboro Area Senior High School cheerleaders, Salem Church, Rouzerville United Methodist Church, Salvation Army, Taqueria Mexican Restaurant, Johnson Controls-Frick, TOPS 402 and Patriot Federal Credit Union. “We also have several trees by people who like to decorate and wanted to be part of this. And there is a nativity tree and nativity sets by Rick and Penny Rowe.”

Star sponsor is McDonald’s of Waynesboro.

McCloud is looking forward to opening night. “It’s great that we are downtown for the tree lighting. The Counting Room is a perfect venue. It’s beautiful in here.”
