CHAMBERSBURG—Tawnya Hurley has been name the new director of the Franklin County Area Agency on Aging.

“As the new Area Agency on Aging director, my goal is to ensure the community is knowledgeable about our programs, improve access to all aging services, and provide the highest quality of care,” said Hurley. “I look forward to partnering with other community providers to ensure we are meeting and exceeding the needs of the aging population in our community.”

Hurley began her career in the mental health field working with individuals with both intellectual disabilities and mental health diagnoses in residential homes in Franklin County. She also worked locally as a behavioral health specialist and mobile therapist.

Most recently, Hurley served as a clinical director for a mental health non-profit case management agency primarily located in Hagerstown, Maryland.

In that position, she provided clinical leadership and oversight for case managers working with families living at the poverty line and experiencing mental health struggles.

“Another goal is to ensure our Aging team is comprised of well-educated and compassionate staff,” said Hurley. “I want each person who interacts with a member of our team to feel they were heard, valued and important. I also want to ensure we are responsive to hearing and meeting the needs of the aging population within Franklin County.”

Born and raised in Franklin County, Hurley is a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School. She earned both a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Shippensburg University, and she is a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania and Maryland.

“The human services division is very proud of the work that the Area Agency on Aging accomplishes every day on behalf of the Franklin County community,” said Franklin County Human Services Administrator Stacie Horvath. “The addition of Tawnya to our team of established care professionals will only add to the positivity and creativity that staff show through their professionalism and compassion. We look forward to this new chapter for the Aging department.”

The Franklin County Area Agency on Aging provides a planned program of supported services to those 60 years of age and older, intended to optimize independence, promote consumer choice and enhance quality of life. Programs include adult day services, home delivered meals, medical equipment and supplies, nursing home transition, among others, along with eight Franklin County senior activity centers.
