WAYNESBORO— Greg Small has been hired as the new marketing manager of the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro.

Born and raised in Waynesboro, Small was inspired to attend art school by his high school art teacher, the late Tom McFarland.

He began his career as a graphic designer at Griffith & Coe Advertising in Hagerstown, was later promoted to creative director, and eventually became a partner in the firm.

The arts have played an important role in Small’s life and that of his family. His wife Jill is an interior designer. His son Andrew is a painter and fine arts professor at Millersville and Lincoln University; his older daughter Jennifer is a painter and graphic designer; and his youngest daughter Heather is in public relations and marketing.

“At this stage of my career, I really just want to give back to my community,” Small said. “The Arts Alliance will allow me to do just that. I believe the arts are an essential part of our lives in so many ways, and I look forward to helping the Arts Alliance make a difference.”

Founded in 2012, the nonprofit Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

The organization has played a pivotal role in growing downtown Waynesboro and its arts community.

Follow AAGW’s Facebook page for special announcements and events to come later this year. AAGW owns and operates Music Makers at 46 W. Main St. and Gallery 50 at 50 W. Main St. In addition, through its initiative Destination ARTS!, the organization supports several other arts venues in Waynesboro, including 42 West Arts Co-Op, the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro, Gallery 35 East, and Walnut Street Studios.

AAGW board president Monica Strong said, “As we enter our 10th anniversary season, we are excited to welcome Greg as our new marketing manager. We look forward to working with him as he helps spread the word about our mission, upcoming events, and all that we do.”

Ongoing Arts Alliance activities include free live music every Friday night at Music Makers, various art-related classes, artist demonstrations, rotating gallery exhibits, and special events.
