Shippensburg softball team sweeps East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG — The Shippensburg University softball team used excellent pitching and timely hitting Friday to hand East Stroudsburg its first home losses of the season, sweeping a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader by scores of 4-1 and 2-1 (nine innings).

Shippensburg (17-11, 3-1 PSAC East) reversed its recent struggles at East Stroudsburg (24-4, 1-3), as the Raiders entered the day having lost seven straight games at ESU dating back to 2017. The sweep was the first time SU has recorded a road sweep at East Stroudsburg since 2016.

The Raiders totaled 18 hits in the doubleheader, including five that went for extra bases. SU got a solo home run in Game 1 from sophomore Morgan Lindsay (Hereford/Upper Perkiomen (Colgate)) and two doubles in Game 2 from freshman Katelyn Minney (Lititz/Warwick).

Freshman Alicia Ball (Woodstock, Va./Central) and redshirt sophomore Maddie Uschock (Irwin/Hempfield Area (Dominican (N.Y.)) combined to record all but one out from the circle. The duo allowed just six hits, all singles, and struck out 14 batters between them.
