CHAMBERSBURG—A used book sale held in March raised $15,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County.

The funds will help build the next Habitat house in Franklin County.

With Patriot Federal Credit Union making their branch locations open for donations, the community dropped off over 30,000 items for the sale including books, puzzles, games, and music. Additionally, Thrivent Financial contributed funds toward advertising the sale.

“It was clear that there was pent up enthusiasm for this type of event. Fifty-five volunteers gave of their time to haul, sort, display and sell the books,” said Mark Story, community engagement director with Habitat For Humanity. “We could have never done this without our good friends at St John’s Church. We are grateful.”

Leftover items from the sale were donated to other area nonprofit organizations and schools. Habitat has plans to build and/or rehab four homes in 2022 and volunteers are already actively discussing a Spring 2023 book sale. About Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County: HFHFC was formed in 1993 and to date has served more than 125 low to moderate income individuals and families in Franklin County and around the world. This helps to achieve our vision of “A world where everyone has a decent place to live” and ensures there is adequate affordable housing stock in Franklin County for everyone to live, work, worship, and play.
