Greencastle-Antrim boys, girls defeat Waynesboro
GREENCASTLE – The Greencastle-Antrim boys’ and girls’ track and field teams defeated Waynesboro in the final dual meets of the season on Tuesday afternoon.
The boys’ team dominated from top to bottom on its way to a 118-32 victory in their Mid-Penn Colonial Division matchup. The Lady Blue Devils won a closer meet, 88-62 in a meet that the Maidens won the track events by the score of 44-43.
In the boys’ meet, Waynesboro kicked things off by winning the 3200 meter relay.
From there, it was pretty much all Greencastle-Antrim.
G-A’s Seth Stouffer notched wins in the 100 meter dash and 200 dash with respective times of 22.9 and 11.1 seconds.
Teammate Weber Long also collected a pair of wins as he crossed the finish line first in the 800 meter run (1:57.4) and 1600 (4:24.3).
The Blue Devils made it a clean sweep in the individual running events when Jackson Wright won the 400 with a time of 50.5 seconds.
Gavin Davidson gave G-A another win as he took first in the 110 meter hurdles (16.4 seconds).
Waynesboro’s Dillon Turner grabbed the top spot in the 300 hurdles in 42.4 seconds. Davidson was second.
Greencastle-Antrim won the 400 and 1600 relay events to conclude the track portion of the meet.
In the throws, the Blue Devils’ Brady Miller won the javelin (147.5) and the discus (129.2). Aidan Horan won the shot put for G-A with a put of 42 feet, 7 inches.
G-A’s Ethan Shank was victorious in the pole vault (12 feet).
Nathan Longwood took first in the long jump (21 feet, 8 ½ inches). Will Scheaffer won the high jump (5-8), while Waynesboro’s Jaylon Bean won the triple jump (42-8).
GIRLS
Natalina Civerella was a double winner for the Blue Devils. She captured first place in the high jump (4-8) and triple jump (32-3 ½).
G-A’s Claire Paci gathered in three top spots, and Claire Coons won two events.
Paci won the 800 (2:26), 1600 (5:35.5) and 3200 (12:43.5).
Coons won the 100 (13.0) and 200 (27.3).
G-A’s Louise Narducci bested the field in the 400 meters (1:06.6).
Avery Parks won the 300 hurdles for the host team with a time of 47.5 seconds. She outlasted Waynesboro’s True Benshoff in the 300 hurdles, but Benshoff won the 100 hurdles in a photo finish over Parks (16.8 seconds).
Benshoff recorded a win in the long jump as well with a jump of 16 feet, 11 inches.
Piper Linn edged Waynesboro’s Jada Creager in the pole vault, taking less efforts to vault 9 feet, 6 inches.
The Blue Devils garnered six of nine places in the throws, including a sweep of the javelin throw. Darcy Holdsworth won the event with a throw of 89-7. Jess Redos won the shot put (31-10).
Waynesboro’s Olivia Dingzon took first in the discus throw (99-2).
Waynesboro will compete in the Route 16 Invitational at Greencastle-Antrim High School on Monday for the final regular-season competition before the postseason kicks off with the Mid-Penn Conference Championships.
SOFTBALL: Maidens beat Polar Bears on Senior Day
WAYNESBORO – Five days after a thrilling come-from-behind extra-innings win over Greencastle-Antrim (9-8), the Waynesboro Maidens varsity softball team continued their winning ways with an 8-5 triumph against Northern York on Tuesday.
The win, the Maidens sixth in a row, was Waynesboro’s 11th against three losses. The Maidens are 9-2 in the Mid-Penn Colonial Division with three league games remaining.
“We had a solid team effort for this win on Senior Day,” said Waynesboro coach Steven McElroy. “Riley Shetler hit her second grand slam of the year to create some distance in the sixth (inning). Michelle Baker pitched a complete game scattering seven hits to capture the win.”
Waynesboro jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second stanza, but the Polar Bears scored a single run in the fourth and two in the fifth to tie the game.
The Maidens tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth and then Shetler belted a grand slam in the home sixth to give Waynesboro some insurance runs.
Waynesboro’s Karsyn Moore was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Baker, Cameron Witte and Jadyn Horner each had two hits.

In baseball, Northern York edged Waynesboro 6-5 on Tuesday in Dillsburg.
