WAYNE HEIGHTS–The Washington Township Board of Supervisors met recently and discussed the following:

  • The Township’s portion of a property tax appeal by Washington Jewish Community Camp Corporation, has been fully settled. The appeal was asking for reduction in property tax for properties located in Washington Township and included the Waynesboro School District.  A decision was rendered by the Franklin County Courts in favor of WICCC.  Washington Township’s portion of the credit amount was $45,381.00. This is a one-time credit and covers numerous properties owned by WICCC for numerous years. Moving forward, the properties will be tax exempt.
  • Supervisors received the June 2022 Washington Township Code Enforcement Report, consisting of 24 violations.  Most violations concerned seasonal issues such as tall grass and weeds and construction without permits. There were also several year-round problems like junk and junk vehicles, trash and tires accumulating on properties, and chickens being raised on properties that do not meet the zoning requirements. Most violations were settled quickly. Supervisors recommend contacting the township if there are questions concerning these and other property use and maintenance questions.
  • Manager Jeff Geesaman advised that the construction for the new Police and Administration Facility is going well with few or no delays to date. The concrete floor is expected to be poured beginning at 3 am on July 28. Geesaman explained that a pour this size needs be done while avoiding the sun during the hottest times of the day.
