WAYNESBORO – Mention the name Aaron Brooks, and anyone who knows anything about wrestling knows who he is.

Brooks, a graduate of North Hagerstown High School, was a visiting clinician at Sunday’s fall wrestling clinic hosted by Waynesboro Wrestling and held at the Waynesboro Area Senior High School gym.

“This is the second year that we have hosted Penn State wrestlers at the high school for a fall clinic,” said Waynesboro Indians varsity wrestling head coach David Swink. “It’s an amazing opportunity for local wrestlers to be in the same gymnasium with these guys.”

Current and former Waynesboro wrestling coaches were also on hand, including Dave Weber – who coached Waynesboro from 1973 to 1996; and Eric Mowen, whose 2008-09 team qualified for the District 3 Team Championships.

The clinic was an opportunity for young wrestlers to learn a thing or two from a two-time NCAA Division I national champion and four-time Maryland high school champion wrestler from Penn State University.

Brooks headlined the three-hour clinic, which was also attended by PSU wrestler Aurelius Dunbar. Dunbar, who lives in Greencastle and graduating from Mercersburg Academy, where he completed his scholastic wrestling career with a 116-22 record and was a four-time state finalist and four-time National Prep All-American.

“The clinic started with techniques on shot defense and counter attacks,” Swink said. “It moved on to technique on offensive shots.”

Wrestlers from kindergarten through 12th grade were eligible to participate.
