CHAMBERSBURG – The Franklin County Commissioners have proclaimed March to be Red Cross Month in Franklin County. In doing so, the commissioners are celebrating the humanitarian spirit of American Red Cross volunteers in area communities and their commitment to ensuring no one faces a crisis alone.

By declaring March to be Red Cross Month in Franklin County, the commissioners are recognizing the contributions of local Red Cross volunteers. These individuals have made a difference in the lives of others by providing emergency shelter, food and comfort to families affected by home fires or natural disasters; by donating blood for accident victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients; and by providing support to American service members and veterans, along with their families. This year also marks the 80th anniversary of the nation’s first Red Cross Month, a time to recognize the positive impact and invaluable services the organization has provided to others, often in their darkest hour, for more than 140 years.

“Caring for each other is a core characteristic shared by Franklin County residents,” said Franklin County Commissioner Dave Keller. “Each act of kindness or compassion offered to alleviate another’s suffering in a time of need aligns with the Red Cross’s mission and values.”

The commissioners urge all Franklin County residents to support the humanitarian mission and work of the American Red Cross by volunteering, giving blood, learning life-saving skills or contributing financial donations.

Franklin County is served by the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross. For more information, call 866-311-3832 or visit redcross.org.
