PuzzleMania raises money for LIU

WAYNESBORO–The LIU12 Franklin County Literacy Council recently held their 5th Annual PuzzleMania Spring edition fundraiser at the 633 Brewery.  The event has been held for the past five years exclusively in Chambersburg to raise much-needed funds for Literacy Programs, under the auspices of the Franklin County Literacy Council.

Four-person teams paid an entrance fee and then had two hours to complete the same puzzle. Teams could make a monetary donation to issue challenges to the opposing teams, which would impede their opponent’s ability to keep puzzling. Challenges included having to wear oven mitts, using nunchucks; or keeping multiple balloons in the air, all while puzzling for five minutes. For a higher donation, teams could ask Sheriff Deputies Heinbaugh and Jones to do a mock Citizen’s Arrest, which led the participants out to the Sheriff’s Transport van and handcuffed them for five minutes!

Right at the hour mark, Team DISSECTOLOGIST won First Place. Five minutes later, Team JAGGED LITTLE PIECES earned second place. Third Place was announced about ten minutes later when Team PUZZLIN’ CUZZINS finished their puzzle. Our Consolation prize went to Team PUZZLE IT OUT.

Sean Bockstie, the Assistant Director of the Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce acted as the Emcee of the event. Angie Wilt, Executive Director of the LIU12 Franklin County Literacy Council, as well as several board members managed Sunday’s event and challenges.

First Place Team won $25 gift cards to Sheetz; 2nd Place received $15 gift certificates to the Fireside Pub in Greencastle; 3rd Place received $10 Starbucks gift cards; and 4th place received a selection of new books and bread mix. Special thanks to the owners of 633 Brewing as well as their staff for making us all feel so welcome; as well as the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department for helping us with one of our challenges.

For more information about the organization, contact Wilt at (717) 504-4459 or AJWilt@IU12.org, or access their website at:  www.iu12.org
