CHAMBERSBURG – The high school track and field postseason got underway on Saturday. Chambersburg High School hosted the annual Mid-Penn Conference Track and Field Championships under rainy and cloudy skies as around three dozen mid-state schools converged for bragging rights in 18 events.

Waynesboro senior Jaylon Bean kicked off the first leg of his final postseason with a pair of top-five finishes. The three-sport athlete – he’s attending Robert Morris University in the fall where he will play football – placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 45 feet, 2 inches. Later in the day, Bean finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.31 seconds.

Bean was sixth in the preliminary heat, finishing with a time of 15.82 seconds and was first in his flight.

Bean enters the District 3-AAA championships as the third seed in the triple jump and the 13th seed in the 110 hurdles.

The top eight finishers were recognized.

Waynesboro distance runner Joey Jacobs ran two events. His best finish was 10th in the 3200-meter run in a time of 9:58.99. He placed 17th in the 800 with a time of 2:03.20.

Tanyon Shaull placed 15th in the javelin throw with 144-1.

Also competing for the Indians were: Preston Hammond (100 and 200 dashes), Montel Petway (100 and 200), Michael Calo (400 meter dash), Owen Shockey (110 hurdles) and Ben Williams (discus, javelin and shot put).

Greencastle-Antrim’s Hayden Parks was the top finisher in the 3200 in a time of 9:30.87. Parks finished nearly three seconds ahead of runner up Cohen Manges of Mechanicsburg, who completed the eight laps in 9:33.47.

G-A’s Seth Stouffer placed second in the 200 with a time of 22.43 seconds, and he placed third in the 100 dash (10.95 seconds).

Teammate Kyle Baker was sixth in the 1600 with a time of 4:24.88. Also, Conner Wright of the Blue Devils placed fourth in the javelin throw (160-2.0), and teammate Blake Diller was eighth.

Austin McCoy of James Buchanan finished fifth in the 400 in 50.91 seconds. JB’s Shane Eshleman placed sixth in the pole vault at 12-6, while G-A’s Ashton Botzan was seventh, also at 12-6 but took more attempts.

Shaull and Williams will compete in the javelin at the district championship.

In the girls’ competition, Waynesboro’s True Benshoff ran the 100 and 300 hurdles events. She placed fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.46 seconds and was 21st in the 100 hurdles (17.66).

Benshoff will compete in the 300 hurdles and is seeded 10th at districts.

Jaeda Dockman placed ninth in the high jump with a top jump of 4 feet, 7 inches. Jada Creager finished eighth in the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet. Dockman and Creager will join Benshoff at this weekend’s district meet.

Charlotte Rhoads will also compete in Shippensburg in the high jump.

Greencastle-Antrim’s Claire Paci finished second in the 1600 (5:01.07) and third in the 800 with a time of 2:19.18.

Teammate Piper Linn ended up in second place in the pole vault with a final vault of 11-feet. She tied Lower Dauphin’s Kylie Eismann but needed more attempts.

Shippensburg University will host the District 3 championships this Friday and Saturday.
