CHAMBERSBURG– The Franklin County Commissioners want to keep motorcyclists safe and have declared May to be Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in Franklin County.

Not only is motorcycle riding a favorite form of transportation, it’s also a popular recreation activity. Pennsylvania is home to nearly 850,000 licensed motorcyclists. With that many motorcyclists on the road, it is important that all motorists remember to share roads and highways responsibly for everyone’s safety. Likewise, motorcyclists can take advantage of free training courses through Pennsylvania’s Motorcycle Safety Program  to improve their skills and ultimately reduce the number of motorcycle crashes and fatalities.

“In honor of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, the commissioners join with PennDOT, An Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education (A.B.A.T.E.), the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Dealers Association and other community partners in calling upon our residents to recognize the importance of motorcycle safety not just in May but at all times of the year,” said Franklin County Commissioner Dave Keller.

By recognizing Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in Franklin County, the commissioners are encouraging all residents to pay attention to motorcycles on county’s the streets and highways and to recognize the importance of staying alert, practicing safe driving techniques and promoting motorcycle safety.

PennDOT provides information on its Motorcycle Safety Program as well as helpful tips and reminders for motorcyclists on its website, https://bit.ly/42kML0Y
