Pirates Ahoy ! at Frostburg

FROSTBURG, MD – The Frostburg State University Children’s Literature Centre, in collaboration with the City of Frostburg, will host the annual Pirates Ahoy! event on Saturday, July 8. The event is free and open to the public, and aimed to provide a day of pirate merriment, tales, treasures, and treats for young readers across the region.

The event will kick off at 9 a.m. with a Pirate (Scallywags) Gathering at City Place on 145 Water St., where all pirates will meet in their best pirate costumes. The Pirate Ships for Pennies Contest Boat Registration will take place at City Place from 9-9:15 a.m., where participants can see the QR code for contest info, ship materials, and dimensions.

From 9:15-9:30 a.m., the Scallywag Walk leading to the Hotel Gunter Ballroom on 11 W. Main St. for an illustrator presentation and secret treasures. At 9:30-10 a.m., the Illustrator Presentation by illustrator of Turkey’s Sandtastic Beach Day, Ep Harner, took place. Each child will receive a tasty scallywag treasure, with a surprise giveaway following the presentation.

From 10:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Pirate Crafts & Activities at City Place, while the Treasure Hunt will be held throughout town.

The event is organized by the Children’s Literature Centre at Frostburg State University, which provides free community events for children such as Storybook Holiday, Harry Potter Book Night, and Pirates Ahoy that encourage a passion for reading1.
