UPDATE: As of 8 a.m., August 24, 2023: Washington Township Manager Vern Ashway indicated that the work crew is still on scene. The leak has been located and temporarily repaired. Washington Township Municipal Authority (WTMA) has turned the water back on to make sure the repair will hold. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDot) is expected to have the road fully repaired by end-of-day, today.

Effective immediately, a Drinking Water Warning has been issued by the Washington Township Municipal Authority. While the replacement of the valve was being done, dirt and sediment may have entered the water line. As a precaution, residents are asked to boil their water before using.

WTMA will inform residents when laboratory tests confirm that no bacteria has entered the system and you no longer need to boil your water.

For more information, please contact the Assistant Director of Utilities, Jeremy Morris at 717-762-3108.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – In the vicinity of 6:30 pm yesterday evening, a water line broke in the Blue Ridge Summit area under the intersection of Rt 16 and Charmian Road. Washington Township and Municipal Authority responded to reports of water flowing from under the road.

On arrival they found the pavement had bubbled upwards in several places with water flowing freely over the road. Fire police deployed to redirect traffic to alternate routes while repair crews gathered with associated equipment to explore the nature of the problem and repair the damage.

Work continued throughout the night to restore water to residents in the vicinity. More in the morning.
