WAYNESBORO- The Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library has announced their September programs. The library is located at 45 East Main Street in Waynesboro. Registration is at www.AHMFL.org

AHMFL First Responder Snack Drive 2023 (September 1 – September 30, 2023)

Help us give back to our first responders. Bring in boxed or individually wrapped snacks or cases of bottled drinks (water, team, lemonade, Gatorade, etc.) anytime during the month and add them to our donation boxes. All snacks will be packed and delivered to our first responder duty stations (police, fire & ambulance). Show your appreciation and help us give something back.

ADULT PROGRAMS

A Step Back In Time: A Reflection of the History of Waynesboro, PA (Virtual)

Join us as we share information from times gone by in and around Waynesboro. This month we will share parts of “A Reflection of the History of Waynesboro, PA and Vicinity” written by Carl V. Besore and Robert L. Ringer. These stories were originally published as part of the Record Herald’s “Reminiscing” series. Joining us this month to share the stories will be Chief Sourbier, Waynesboro Police Department.

Adult Story Time: Imponderables: The Solution to the Mysteries of Everyday Life

Join us for our weekly virtual Adult Story Time shared on the library’s Facebook page. There are plenty of books that profess to tell you the meaning of life. But where can you go to find answers to the little mysteries of life that drive you nuts until you find their solution? During the month of September, we will be sharing from the book “Imponderables: The Solution to the Mysteries of Everyday Life”. This book looks at questions that cannot be answered by numbers or measurements or standard reference books, and provides some clues and answers to these questions. Plan to join us as we learn together.

Hooks & Needles: Making a Change Purse

Come join us for our Hooks & Needles Program at the library. Our program will give you the option of bringing with you what you are working on and joining in our group that talks about their current projects and shares ideas and encouragement. This is a great place to share your ideas or to learn some new stitching skills. You can also participate in our Making A Change Purse class. If you choose to do this, bring along DK/light worsted #3 yarn and a 3.5mm (F) hook OR worsted #45 yarn and a 4.25mm (G) hook. No matter which size yarn and crochet hook you choose, you will need to bring along a small decorative button as well.

Civil War Soldiers

Join us to see for yourself how soldiers existed during the Civil War. This program will be presented by two re-enactors who have a passion for history. Larry Korczyk is a Civil War reenactor with the 2nd Rhode Island Infantry Volunteers; and Rodney Cool

is with the 2nd Maryland CSA infantry unit. This event is free and open to the public; however, we ask that you register at the library if you plan to attend.

Coffee With A Cop

Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library has teamed up with Christine’s Cafe and the Waynesboro Police Department for this informative Coffee With A Cop Program. Join us at Christine’s Cafe located at 81 West Main Street for a cup of coffee and conversation with officers from the Waynesboro Police Department. Bring your questions and concerns to the table. We look forward to seeing you there.

DIY Paper Flowers Craft Session

Walking Librarian In-Person Walk: Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve

Anime Club

Teens ages 12-18, do you love to watch anime, read manga, and even draw characters? Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library invites you to come make candy sushi with us at our first meeting of the fall. Anime Club is a regular program at the library on 1st & 3rd Wednesdays. We read & discuss our favorite / least favorite manga, choose anime shows & movies to watch together, and do various games, crafts, & other activities related to Japanese culture. Art Saturday Kits

Teens ages 12-18, stop by Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library to pick up your art kit!

On the 3rd Saturday of each month, we announce a new Art Saturday Kit. Art kits consist of a paper bag containing all (or most of) the supplies you’ll need to complete an art or craft project at home. The instructions are usually via a video link (also posted on our social media). Art Kits are geared towards teens ages 12-18, but older kids are welcome to give it a try, too.

Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library hosts Teen Game Night via Discord. Teens ages 13-18, do you have a smartphone, tablet, PC, and/or console that you play games on? Do you have online games to play & no one to play with? Looking for a game to play but don’t know where to start? Join us on our AHMFL Teen Discord to see what games are happening! We play online multiplayer games such as Among Us, Jackbox, Unfortunate Spacemen, Gartic Phone, Minecraft, and more. Put in your vote for what you want to play! To join us, you’ll need to be a member of AHMFL’s Teen Discord, since this is how we meet up, choose games, & share codes to access our game lobbies. To become a member, teens must return a permission slip signed by a parent/guardian. Please contact AHMFL Teen Librarian Miss Gina at (717) 762-3335 to request a slip. Unfortunately, Discord has a strict age 13+ policy, so we direct 12-yr-old patrons to try our in-person Game Nights instead, until they turn 13.

Online Teen Game Nights are a regular program on alternating Tuesdays, 5:45-6:45 PM.

For those of you who missed the August Book Club due to back to school activities, we are rehosting The Giver by Lois Lowry. Attention kids between the ages of 9-11… do you like to read and share your ideas? Join us for our Children’s Book Club which meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. This month’s book selection is The Giver by Lois Lowry. This is the 1st book in a 4-part series about a boy named Jonah who lives in a community where

everything is controlled. As he reaches his 12th birthday, he will be assigned a role in the community. Join us as we discuss what role he is given and why Jonah was selected for this very unique role in his society.

Kindly Canines are back!!! Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library welcomes ages 5-11 in the library’s Children’s Room to read to a variety of therapy dogs. Children may select different books from the library and/or bring their own favorite book from home to read. Kindly Canines is a regular library program held during the school year on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM.
