HAGERSTOWN, MD – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners has announced the appointment of Michelle Gordon as the first female County Administrator for Washington County, MD. With a history of exceptional leadership and a deep understanding of the county’s operations, Gordon’s promotion is a testament to her dedication to public service and her significant contributions to the community. 

Having joined the Washington County team nine months ago as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Michelle Gordon has quickly become an indispensable asset. Her keen financial acumen and innovative strategies have significantly improved the county’s efficiency and financial stability. Under her guidance, the county has seen remarkable advancements in its financial management, making her an outstanding candidate for the County Administrator role. 

Gordon’s impressive record as CFO reflects her unwavering commitment to excellence. Michelle Gordon’s roots run deep in Washington County, where she has been a lifelong resident. After graduating from Williamsport High School, she earned her Bachelor of Arts from Hood College and her Master’s of Business Administration from Mount Saint Mary’s University, Richard J. Bolte, Sr. School of Business. With over 30 years of finance and accounting experience, including more than two decades in governmental accounting, Gordon’s credentials are a testament to her expertise. 

Prior to her current role, Gordon served as the Finance Director for Jefferson County, West Virginia, for over seven years. During her tenure, she exhibited exceptional leadership by guiding officials, departments, and the community through the financial challenges of the global pandemic. She played a pivotal role in technology improvements that streamlined budgeting processes, ensuring financial transparency for the local community. 

Washington County is poised to benefit greatly from Michelle Gordon’s leadership as she takes on her new role as the first female County Administrator. Her extensive experience, dedication to excellence, and profound understanding of county operations position her to drive positive change and continued progress within the community.
