WAYNESBORO- The Waynesboro Area School District will host a Parent & Community Night on Wednesday, Sept. 13, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Representatives from Career Link, Leader in Me, TEAMology, Over the Rainbow, Laurel Life, Pre-K Counts, and more will be on site to answer questions from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Guest speakers will begin at 6:30 and last an hour until 7:30 p.m. The speakers include:

  • Becky Voss & Jessica Crouse – Cyber Safety
  • Alexandra Shatzer – Suicide Prevention
  • Katelyn Becker – Drugs and Alcohol
  • Erica Patillo – Bullying Prevention

The format of the evening will start in the lobby of WASHS auditorium. From 6:00 – 6:30, parents will have the opportunity to meet the community representatives and learn about their services. The speakers will begin at 6:30 in the auditorium.

“Parent involvement is tied to academic achievement and growth, regular school attendance and better social skills,” said Stephanie States, Director of Student Services. “This particular event will provide parents the opportunity to get to know local community support groups and businesses in our area that may be able to help families in both their academic and social-emotional lives. Parents can gain invaluable insights into the educational environment and learn more about the resources available to them in our community.”

States added that the event was generated by parent and community feedback requesting assistance for their children. “Over the past couple of years, the WASD community has experienced and increase in mental health needs. As a district we felt it was important to provide these resources to parents/families to offer hope and provide education on mental health topics.”

Parents and community members are encouraged to attend the Parent & Community Night on September 13th. It is a great opportunity to learn about the resources available in the community and to get support for your children.
