GREENCASTLE — The community of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, will hold a walk and gathering on Saturday, September 9, to remember the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Eastern Avenue and proceed to Center Square, then to the Greencastle-Antrim Veteran’s Memorial at 60 N. Washington Street. The walk is intended to simulate the 110 floors (2,071 steps) of the World Trade Center that firefighters, police officers, EMS providers, and civilians climbed and descended to save lives on that day.
The walk will end at the Veteran’s Memorial with a moment of silence and remembrance. A gathering will follow with reflections and a prayer. All veterans, emergency services personnel, citizens, students, and families are invited to participate in the walk or a portion thereof.
“If you are of a certain age, we certainly remember that day…where we were…our thoughts, concerns, and the sacrifices made that day and in the past 22 years,” said Greencastle Mayor Ben Thomas Jr. “Never Forget! Greencastle remembers September 11, 2001.”
The 9/11 remembrance walk and gathering in Greencastle is a way for the community to come together and honor the victims of the attacks, as well as the first responders and military personnel who have served in the years since.
