WAYNESBORO- This Friday the Waynesboro Indians will be putting on their annual Stars & Stripes game at Buchanan Auto Stadium at 7 p.m.
This year’s affair will have the added electricity of the Indians renewing their annual grudge match against their rival from up Route 16 in the Greencastle Antrim Blue Devils.
The Stars & Stripes game is put on annually by the Indian Football Booster club to honor the great current and former armed services men and women from the local area who have served or are currently serving our country with bravery and valor.
The Indians come into the game looking to get back on the winning track after dropping their last two outings after picking up a season opening win against the Spring Grove Rockets 21-3. The Indians also have the extra motivation of wanting to avenge last years 35-21 loss to the hands of the Blue Devils up in Greencastle last year.
GA will ride into Waynesboro riding the high of starting off the 2023 season undefeated at 3-0 and breaking the Indians 8 game winning streak in the rivalry last season. The Blue Devils lit up the scoreboard last week putting up 35 points on the road at Delone Catholic.
Come early and stay late. Stars & Stripes shirts will be on sale starting at 5:30p.m.. In addition to the big game kicking off at 7pm, the Stars & Stripes festivities include us honoring some special guests prior to kickoff and a postgame fireworks show.
Fridays special guests, the Horton family, are a local family that have dedicated their lives to serving our country for two generations.
John Horton, Chief Petty Officer Horton enlisted in the US Navy in 1983 and served 23 years before retiring in 2006. Chief Horton had a varied career in the Navy serving aboard the USS Monterrey and in several joint service commands from the desert to the White House. He continues his service today as a civilian in the Department of Defense.
Sandra Horton, Sandra enlisted in the US Navy in 1989 and served 8 years as an electronics technician, serving at the Naval Communications Area Master Station in Naples, Italy and with the White House Communications agency.
Emily Horton, Ensign Emily Horton is a 2018 graduate of WASHS. She commissioned into the US Navy after graduation from East Carolina University and is now attending medical school at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.
Noah Horton, Midshipman 1st Class Noah Horton is a 2020 graduate of WASHS. He is in his final year at The United State Naval Academy. After his commissioning he hopes to continue to flight school and become a naval aviator.
