WAYNESBORO- The Antietam Humane Society (AHS) and Rough Edges Brewing will team up with MainStreet Waynesboro, Inc. (MSI) to host their 3rd Annual Dogtoberfest and the inaugural Paws 5K on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. This event raises funds for AHS and includes food, beer, music, and the opportunity to meet some adorable pups looking for their forever homes.

The Paws 5k is a new edition this year and is a fun walk/run for participants and their leashed, well-behaved pets to enjoy the scenic trails of Waynesboro starting and ending at Memorial Park. After the 5K, the main event will be held at Main Street Park at 1 p.m.

In addition, this event is where the winners for the organizations Ales for Tails Contest will be announced. Earlier in the Spring, AHS and Rough Edges teamed up to search for the cutest, spunkiest and best pet to be featured on their inaugural Ales for Tails beer can. Nominations were made through the non-profit’s website earlier this year and voting has been ongoing since May 1st with the most recent round finding the top 10. Votes were accepted through 10:59pm on October 9th with one lucky pet to be chosen at their closing event, Dogtoberfest, Saturday, Oct. 14, who will be the face of Rough Edges Brewing’s Ales for Tails brew which will release later this year. The fundraiser has already raised over $8,000 for AHS prior to the final event.

AHS is based in Waynesboro, PA and aims to promote the well-being of animals and their community through education, care, adoption and outreach. In 2022, AHS boasted a save-rate of 94%, but success like that is only possible through continued support from our community. “We are so grateful to local businesses like Rough Edges that strive to help people and animals alike” said Kacie Morrell, Executive Director of AHS.

“We are always looking for ways to get and stay involved within our community.” Casey of Rough Edges said. “AHS is an excellent organization who goes above and beyond for pets and our community.” She and her husband, Wes opened Rough Edges Brewing in the former News Agency location on Main Street just over 3 years ago to provide excellent craft beer, good food and entertainment in their hometown.

“We are excited to have tails wagging in downtown Waynesboro for Dogtoberfest,” said Bill Kohler, executive director of Mainstreet Waynesboro. “We love partnering with our friends at Rough Edges and Antietam Humane Society!” You can register for the fun walk/run through the scenic trails at Dogtoberfest PAWS 5k Registration, Sat, Oct 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM | Eventbrite for just $25 now or $30 the day of the event. All of the proceeds from the Ales for Tails contest and the Paws 5K will go to AHS to support their efforts.
