SNIFF NOTES: Dog Walk

I do not know how we are halfway through October, but somehow it happened. Time just gets away from me anymore.

I have to tell you about our 23rd annual Dog Walk and Contests this year that will be held on October 28. We are moving the fundraiser to the Shippensburg Fairgrounds and have all kinds of amazing things planned.

First, let’s talk prizes.

Every year the people who attend absolutely cannot believe the prizes that are available for participants who raise $75 or more. So get out there and get those sponsors now so you can get a chance at some amazing stuff.

The top donor will get the first choice of prizes and we call names on down the line.

Our dog walk coordinator, Robin, works throughout the year to get really incredible items for the prize area. Believe me, you do not want to miss this.

Our dog walk has been increasing in totals and I know Robin loves when we make a lot of money for the shelter. The donations will go toward caring for the animals in our kennels right now, so it’s quite a poignant fundraiser for us.

We have a PayPal link on our website for folks who would like to get online sponsors and Facebook fundraisers are also welcome as a way to increase your donations and get a shot at some of the top prizes.

If you have a dog walk fundraiser on your Facebook page, just take a screen shot of what you raise and we will add it to your total. It’s a great way to help the shelter.

Registration for the dog walk will begin at 9 a.m. and the walk will kick off at 10. We’re hoping for good weather, so if you have an in with Mother Nature, please make the call.

Everyone who walks will receive a participation bag and folks who raise $25 or more will go home with a dog walk t-shirt. People who bring in $75 or more will get a t-shirt and a walk down the prize table.

We’ll have our prize wheel going, too, for those who like to pretend they’re on a gameshow and take a spin. We are also going to have some other games for participants as well, including a Plinko-type challenge to win fun items.

Following the walk, we will hold our canine contests where we’re looking for the best kisser, best trick, best costume and most obedient. I always have a tough time finding judges for these contests because it’s so difficult to choose a winner. People come up with some amazing costumes and the tricks and abilities of the pooches are unreal.

There are even some great prizes for the winners in our contests, too. I’m telling you, Robin goes all out for this. You have to see it.

Each year we look to make our dog walk bigger and better than the last and you can help us do that. All the forms and information can be found online at cvas-pets.org or you can always give me a call at (717) 263-5791 with any questions.

Everyone who takes part in our dog walk is always really impressed. Trust me, you don’t want to miss it so make sure to mark your calendars and be at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds on October 28!
