Smiles and Sales Abound for Small Business Saturday

CHAMBERSBURG — Downtown Chambersburg Inc. (DCI) is once again participating in Small Business Saturday to promote the businesses that populate downtown Chambersburg. Small Business Saturday falls on November 25, and DCI will run various specials to draw visitors downtown. One such special is the Downtown Dollars giveaway.

Participants in the Downtown Dollars giveaway will present a receipt for a sale of $25 or more, dated November 25, 2023, from participating businesses to be entered to win a Downtown Dollars voucher for $10, $20, or $50. These vouchers can be spent like cash at participating businesses. Over $2,500 in Downtown Dollars will be given away, culminating in a “Golden Ticket” worth $100.

Small Business Saturday is an initiative that was originally started in 2010 by credit card company American Express to demonstrate support for the country’s small businesses and their effect on the economy, and designed to mirror the success of Black Friday. The Small Business Administration has co-sponsored the initiative since 2011.

Chambersburg’s observance of Small Business Saturday is one that DCI enjoys coordinating each year. “The businesses that line our streets are crucial to our community’s economic well-being and sense of place,” said Sam Thrush, DCI president. “We’re privileged to support locally owned businesses during Small Business Saturday and throughout the year.” The proceeds of all sales during Small Business Saturday will support small businesses in Chambersburg and DCI’s mission of improving Chambersburg’s economic development.
