YORK– Recognized for delivering high-quality maternity care and newborns safely, WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, and WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital have each received the 2024 U.S. News Best Hospital for Maternity Award by U.S. News & World Report, the global authority on hospital rankings and consumer advice. These three hospitals demonstrate a performance that is well above average on a range of objective quality measures including low newborn complication rates and Cesarean-section births.

Additionally, WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital and WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital also received the inaugural “Maternity Access” award, recognizing the quality care provided to regions that, if not for these hospitals, would be considered maternity deserts, or counties with little or no access to a hospital or birth center offering maternity care services.

“Our dedication to delivering safe, high quality and accessible maternity care across our South Central Pennsylvania communities is unmatched. We are honored to have the trust of our patients when they choose maternity care with us,” said Dr. Michael Seim, senior vice president and chief quality officer at WellSpan Health. “Receiving continued validation from independent organizations that measure quality and safety attests to our commitment to providing such a high level of care for families and their newborns.”

Last year, these three hospitals were also nationally recognized for expert maternity care by another leading publication: Money, who teamed up with The Leapfrog Group to develop the first Best Maternity Hospital ranking.

WellSpan offers comprehensive maternity care throughout the pregnancy journey from planning to birth. Collectively, these award-winning hospitals have delivered more than 3,000 babies in the last fiscal year alone.
