Teen Programs Offered at AHMFL in January

WAYNESBORO- Teens in Waynesboro, can look forward to a diverse slate of programs at the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library (45 East Main Street) throughout January. The library will offer activities ranging from anime club meetings and creative art kit exploration to informative enrichment clubs covering various topics. These programs provide opportunities for teens to engage in their interests, foster their creativity, and connect with their peers in a vibrant learning environment.

Anime Club

January 17, 4:00 PM – Teens ages 12-18, do you love to watch anime, read manga, and even draw characters? Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library invites you to join us for our first Anime Club of 2024, when we will make kandi (keychains, bracelets, etc. made out of pony beads).

Anime Club is a regular program at the library on 1st & 3rd Wednesdays.

We read & discuss our favorite / least favorite manga, choose anime shows & movies to watch together, and do various games, crafts, & other activities.

Art Saturday Kits

January 20, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM – Teens ages 12-18, stop by Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library to pick up your art kit!

On the 3rd Saturday of each month, we announce a new Art Saturday Kit.

Art kits consist of a paper bag containing all (or most of) the supplies you’ll need to complete an art or craft project at home. The instructions are usually via a video link (also posted on our social media).

Art Kits are geared towards teens ages 12-18, but older kids are welcome to give it a try, too.

Classmate Creations

January 25, 4:00-5:00 PM – Classmate Creations is coming to Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library! Classmate Creations is a student baking club run by the Life Skills students at WASHS. Students in this program are in grades 11-12. Students prepare desserts weekly for the staff in the district to purchase. We specialize in unique cookie flavors and royal icing sugar cookies. We also offer seasonal treats. We look forward to meeting new friends and sharing our yummy treats.

Stop by the Library on 2nd & 4th Thursdays, 4-5 PM, to buy your cookies!

Starts January 25.

Dungeons and Dragons Adventurers League

January 20, 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM – Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library announces a brand-new program for Teens ages 12-18. D&D Adventurers League – Teen Edition is an ongoing official campaign for Dungeons & Dragons, a fantasy-themed game where players team up to adventure,

explore, and level up! Characters made here can be played anywhere there’s an Adventurers League event. Pencils, character miniatures, dice, and snacks will be provided. Players are welcome to bring any of their own! Initial space is limited, so Registration is Required. Please register at ahmfl.org on the Programming Calendar to reserve your spot at the table. Let’s roll!

This program will take place monthly on 3rd Saturdays.

Eclipse Program Lineup

Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library invites the public to join us for a full lineup of solar system programming. The goal is to understand our solar system better, in preparation for our Eclipse Watching Party on April 8, 2024! Jan 27, 11:00 AM—How Far From the Sun? A Toilet Paper Workshop—Kids ages 6 & up (ability count to 100 is a plus) – Registration Required.

Cosmic Adventures Planetarium—All Ages—Tentative Date Feb 10—Time & Location TBA – Registration Required.

Feb 16, 11:00 AM—Preschool Story Time—All about circles & planets, with a special guest reader!

March 15, 11:00 AM—Preschool Story Time—Get to know our moon, with a special guest reader!

March 23, 11:00 AM—Making Craters Workshop—Kids – Registration Required.

March 23, 2:00 PM—Pinhole Cameras Workshop—Teens & Kids, ages 9-18—Make your very own eclipse viewing device! – Registration Required.

April 8, 2:30-3:30 PM—Eclipse Watching Party

Join us for a casual hangout time in Martha’s Garden to watch the event we’ve all been waiting for. Refreshments & activity sheets provided. Don’t forget to bring your eclipse glasses and/or pinhole camera!

MakerSpace Days

January 9, 4:00-5:30 PM – Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library invites teens & preteens ages 10-18 to join us in the MakerSpace for a Paddle Boat Engineering Challenge. Build your own paddle boat and race other participants on a water track!

MakerSpace Days

January 23, 4:00-5:30 PM – Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library invites teens & preteens ages 10-18 to join us in the MakerSpace for Crochet for Beginners. Do you have a yearning for yarn? Have you always wanted to make your own scarves, blankets, and more out of yarn? Come learn the basics and begin an easy scarf project.

Pokemon Club

January 13, 1:30–2:45 PM – Kids & Teens, Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library invites you to join us for Pokemon Club! This club is dedicated to battling via the Pokemon card game. If you don’t already know how to play, leaders Chad & Kurt Ewell will teach you everything you need to know! Feel free to bring your own deck if you have one. We will also have decks here. Pokemon Club is a regular library program that meets on 2nd Saturdays.

Teen Game Nights (In Person)

January 9, 5:45-6:45 PM – Teens ages 12-18, the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library invites you to join us for an in-person Game Night at the library. These Game Nights are a regular program at the library on alternating Tuesdays, 5:45-6:45 PM. Attendees choose which games to play. Do you have a fun game you’d like to share? Go ahead and bring it!

January 16, 5:45-6:45 PM – Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library hosts Teen Game Night via Discord. Teens ages 13-18, do you have a smartphone, tablet, PC, and/or console that you play games on? Do you have online games to play & no one to play with? Looking for a game to play but don’t know where to start? Join us on our AHMFL Teen Discord to see what games are happening! We play online multiplayer games such as Among Us, Jackbox, Unfortunate Spacemen, Gartic Phone, Minecraft, and more. Put in your vote for what you want to play!

To join us, you’ll need to be a member of AHMFL’s Teen Discord, since this is how we meet up, choose games, & share codes to access our game lobbies. To become a member, teens must return a permission slip signed by a parent/guardian. Please contact AHMFL Teen Librarian Miss Gina at (717) 762-3335 to request a slip. Unfortunately, Discord has a strict age 13+ policy, so we direct 12-yr-old patrons to try our in-person Game Nights instead, until they turn 13.

Online Teen Game Nights are a regular program on alternating Tuesdays, 5:45-6:45 PM. This is our last Online Teen Game Night of 2023. Please stay tuned for 2024 dates.

Winter Reading Challenge

January 15-February 15 – Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library is pleased to announce the 2024 Winter Reading Challenge! Don’t worry, it’s a relaxed & informal kind of challenge… Just pick up your free 2024 Reading Challenge Calendar at the library. All the challenges are printed on it. Try as many of them as you like, and receive a sticker at the Circulation Desk for each challenge completed. Every 3 stickers equals 1 ticket for entry in our prize basket drawing! (Bring your calendar or take a photo of it to show us.) Winners announced Feb 17. For All Ages. Happy Reading
