Waynesboro swimmers sweep Northern

WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro Area Senior High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams each improved to 2-0 on the young season following wins against Northern York on Tuesday afternoon in Md-Penn Colonial Division action.

The ‘Boro boys won all three relay races and all eight individual events en route to the lopsided victory. The Maidens also won the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay and won five of the eight individual races.

On the boys side, sprinter Brenner McIlquham was a double winner. He took first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.84 seconds and was tops in the 100 freestyle (56.82).

McIlquham also ran a leg in the winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

JB Bonner joined McIlquham in the two-win club as he placed first in the 200 individual medley (39.03) and the 400 freestyle (4:49.13). Bonner swam a leg on the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Will Yost nabbed firsts in the 200 freestyle (2:18.44) and the 100 breaststroke (1:22.77).

Cello Domino won the 100 butterfly in 1:11.00.

In girls’ competition, Waynesboro’s Eve Phillips won a pair of races – 200 IM (2:38.59) and 100 freestyle (1:01.60) and swam in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Other individual winners for Waynesboro were Ruth Phillips (50 freestyle, 29.18), Ashlynn Carbaugh (400 freestyle, 5:27.18) and Belle Hess (100 breaststroke, 1:28.61.

Waynesboro will next compete in a dual meet on Jan. 3 at Shippensburg in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division contest.
