Franklin County Veteran Hero: Julie Beam Makes a Difference

CHAMBERSBURG- The Franklin County Commissioners recently recognized Julie Beam, an Administrative Assistant II with Franklin County Veterans Affairs. Julie’s work in the community on behalf of Franklin County’s 13,000-plus veterans and military families has not gone unnoticed. Wednesday’s recognition was due in part to a recommendation by a local veteran who has seen Julie in action.

In the short time Julie has been with the Veterans Affairs team, she has had a positive impact on the quality of lives of local veterans. Anyone who has seen Julie in action knows that she puts her whole heart and soul into whatever she’s working on.

She has dedicated her time – including evenings and weekends – to educating area schools and service groups throughout Franklin County about the Operation Save-A-Vet, Save-A-Pet service dog program.

Julie brings an infectious enthusiasm to everything she does because, in her own words, she “loves when we can make people happy” and she is constantly thinking of ways to let veterans and military families know that they’re cared for and appreciated. This was especially evident in the way she helped coordinate the distribution of hundreds of Christmas stockings to vets and families at the December MilitaryShare food distribution events. Julie didn’t stop at handing out stockings. She arranged to have Santa and Mrs. Claus on hand, and she bought elf outfits for Santa’s helpers, played Christmas music and turned the December MilitaryShare event into a festive atmosphere that spread joy, happiness and even drew a few tears.

Julie is an active, energetic force working on behalf of Franklin County veterans and military families. The Franklin County Commissioners are grateful to Julie and her efforts on behalf of Franklin County’s veterans and are proud of the work she performs not just as a county employee but also as a dedicated member of the Franklin County community.
