Waynesboro defeats Shippensburg in league meets

SHIPPENSBURG – The Waynesboro boys and girls swimming teams returned from Christmas break in top form on Wednesday evening.

The boys’ team dominated on its way to a 136-40 victory. The Indians won every event and swept four of them. JB Bonner led the way in the 100-yard butterfly as he won with a time of 1:00.41. Cello Dimino placed second, and Riley Morgan completed the sweep with a third-place finish.

In the 500 freestyle, Waynesboro’s Brenner McIlquham highlighted another one-two-three showing with a time of 5:19.64. Bonner was second, while Kyle Swanson placed third.

Parker Hull nabbed first place in the 100 freestyle (1:02.58). Owen Shockey was second, and Benjamin Royer placed third.

McIlquham finished the 50 freestyle with a winning time of 22.76 seconds. Trailing him in second and third were Gabe Blake and Hull.

Waynesboro’s Aiden Hess won the 200 individual medley (2:21.19) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.62). Andrew Bryan came in first in the 200 freestyle (2:08.91) and Will Yost won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.44).

Waynesboro’s Eve Phillips and Ruth Phillips won two events in girls’ competitions. Eve won the 200 freestyle (2:03.21) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.43). Ruth grabbed the top spot in the 100 freestyle (59.18) and 50 freestyle (25.98).

Maddy Stoops accounted for the fifth first-place finish for the visitors when she won the 500 freestyle (6:00.57).

Waynesboro won one of the three relay events (200 medley relay).
