Waynesboro swimmers defeat Susquehanna Township

WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro Area Senior High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams turned in another performance on Tuesday as they hosted Susquehanna Township at the Waynesboro Area YMCA.

The Waynesboro boys’ squad defeated Susquehanna Township 119-50. The Maidens beat Township 121-49.

The hometown Indians won all three relay events as well as the eight individual events. Brenner McIlquham sprinted his way to victory in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 25.73 seconds. He followed up with a win in the 100 freestyle in 56.62 seconds.

McIlquham also swam a leg in the 200 freestyle relay along with Cello Dimino, Gabe Blake and JB Bonner.

Bonner collected top finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:31.53) and the 100 backstroke (1:09.22).

Will Yost was another double winner. He won the 200 freestyle in 2:13.22 and the 400 freestyle in 4:51.42.

Dimino captured first place in the 100 butterfly (1:08.10) while Owen Shockey won the 100 breaststroke (1:24.22).

In the girls’ competition, the Maidens won all but one event (200 freestyle).

Eve Phillips and Ruth Phillips each won two events. Eve won the 200 individual medley (2:38.91) and the 100 freestyle (1:01.00). Ruth was the top finisher in the 50 freestyle (28.85) and 100 butterfly (1:15.13).

Delaney Stains, Maddy Stoops and Belle Hess were also victorious. Stains won the 400 freestyle in 5:56.37. Stoops won the 100 backstroke (1:16.07), and Hess won the 100 breaststroke (1:28.63).
