Waynesboro swim teams one step closer to division titles

NEWVILLE – The Waynesboro Area Senior High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams are one step closer to Mid-Penn Conference divisional titles after defeating Big Spring on Wednesday.

Both teams turned in dominating performances. The boys won121-64; the Maidens were victorious by the score of 119-60. Both teams also improved to 7-0.

One more meet remains on the schedule as the Indians and Maidens face East Pennsboro on Tuesday at Mount St. Mary’s University (Emmitsburg, Maryland).

In the girls’ meet, Waynesboro won 10 of the 11 events en route to the decisive victory. In addition to winning all three relays, the Maidens captured seven wins in individual races. Eve Phillips won the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. Ruth Phillips took the top spot in the 100 freestyle and the 50 freestyle. Maddy Stoops won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, and Ashlynn Carbaugh won the 100 backstroke.

In the boys’ competition, Waynesboro had seven different swimmers win events. JB Bonner was a double-winner. He nabbed the top place in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke.

Brenner McIlquham (200 freestyle), Aiden Hess (50 freestyle), Gabe Blake (100 butterfly), Cello Dimino (100 freestyle), Will Yost (500 freestyle) and Owen Shockey (100 breaststroke) were also winners.

The Tribe won two of the three relay events.
