It was wrestling’s turn to shine in the postseason spotlight last week, with sectionals kicking off in Pennsylvania and the Washington County Tournament going down in Maryland.

Chambersburg’s grapplers stole the show at the Section 3-3A Tournament in Mechanicsburg last weekend, with Matt Mentzer’s boys claiming the team title with 178 points and crowning two champions in Zachary Sherman (121) and Aiden Hight (215). Greencastle-Antrim also competed in the tournament and took 14th with three points.

At South Western for the Section 4-3A Tournament, Waynesboro was the seventh-place team with 101 points and was highlighted by the efforts of Caden Shockey, who finished as runner-up at 189 pounds. Waynesboro crowned a girls champion at the Section I tournament at Susquenita, with Annabelle Tracey topping the podium at 136 pounds.

The Washington County Tournament saw all three Local.News entries boast champions. North Hagerstown’s Luke Frazee (157) and Garcia Ndosa-Kadiobo (285) won titles, while Smithsburg’s Bella Cox captured the crown in the girls 125 weight class. South Hagerstown’s Grace Reynolds (girls 110) and Nadia Ungurean (girls 120) also cashed in on tourney gold.

In the world of basketball, the Mid-Penn Tournament kicked off with Greencastle-Antrim’s boys basketball team falling in the semifinal round. The good news for the Blue Devils is they still get a crack at the District 3 tournament. The same can be said for the Chambersburg boys basketball team, as well as the girls from Fairfield and Greencastle-Antrim, who will all battle to extend their respective seasons at districts this week.
