Sprint car racing season set to begin

It’s not quite spring yet, but sprint car speedways all across the east coast are starting to open the gates.

Path Valley Speedway and Hagerstown Speedway will both soon be among those ranks, as both tracks are set to kick off their seasons on March 23.

Path Valley, located in Spring Run and featuring a quarter-mile banked clay oval, is set to host racing in seven different divisions this season. Special division classes at Path Valley this spring will include the East Coast Legends Series, the World of Outlaws super late models, and the Appalachian Mountain super late models, among others.

Hagerstown Speedway, the oldest operating dirt track in Maryland, features a half-mile red clay oval. Keith Reed, of Hagerstown, is the defending pure stocks points champion while Greencastle’s Scott Palmer will be aiming to improve upon last year’s third-place finish in the late model sportsman division.

Racing at these speedways doesn’t begin until later in March, but both tracks will be open for practice in the weeks leading up to the season.

Below is a track-by-track and month-by-month look at the local schedules for sprint car season:
