After two full days of competition at Cumberland Valley, the District 3-3A Swimming Championships came down to two teams and one wild relay race.

With the Chambersburg Trojans narrowly trailing Wilson for the lead in the team standings, it was time for the final race: The 400 freestyle relay. It took a record-breaking performance to get the job done, but the Chambersburg quartet of Alex Kaczmark, Amir Tasker, Jed Ritchie, and Derek Estep was up for the challenge. They swam to a district-record time of 3:06.33 to win the race and ultimately the team championship.

Chambersburg’s swimming team, which got individual gold from Estep in the 200 freestyle (1:40.71), highlighted an important week in sports for teams in the Local.News area.

Chambersburg’s boys basketball squad finished second at the District 3-6A Championships, while Greencastle-Antrim placed fourth at the 5A tournament. Both teams have qualified for the PIAA Championships.

Only one boys basketball team under the Local.News umbrella remains in the MPSSAA Championships: The Smithsburg Leopards. The No. 1-seeded Leopards are set to take on No. 3 South Carroll on Tuesday in the Class 1A West II Region Final.

Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News coverage area performed last week:
