CHAMBERSBURG – The Franklin County Commissioners have proclaimed March 17-23, 2024, to be Pennsylvania 4-H Week in Franklin County.
4-H is the nation’s largest youth development organization, supporting nearly 6 million children and adolescents across the U.S. Its network provides youth with opportunities for leadership development, career exploration, problem solving, friendships, community involvement, passion and purpose.
In Pennsylvania, the Penn State Cooperative Extension oversees 4-H programs in all 67 counties, reaching more than 77,000 youth between the ages of 5 and 18. A network of staff members and over 6,000 adult volunteers engage these young people in learning activities and hands-on projects in topics like animal science, civic engagement, STEM, and health and wellness. To date, 4-H has helped 3,923 Franklin County children and teens become confident, independent, resilient and compassionate leaders.
“Pennsylvania 4-H Week is a great time to highlight all the incredible ways 4-H inspires our young people. It’s also a time to recognize the remarkable Franklin County youth who work each day to have a positive impact on those around them,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst. “We’re grateful for the strong foundation that 4-H provides to our local young people and the great work Franklin County’s Extension Office does with these kids.”
By recognizing Pennsylvania 4-H Week, the commissioners are encouraging Franklin County residents to celebrate 4-H for its valuable service and continued efforts to empower youth with a foundation of success for the rest of their lives.
