WAYNESBORO- Three Waynesboro High School students won prizes at the Annual Rotary Club of Waynesboro 4-Way Speech Contest.

The contest asks high school students to present a timed speech evaluating a topic using the Rotary 4-Way Test: Is it the truth, is it fair to all concerned, will it build good will and better friendships, and will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Lexi Marks, a 9th grader took first place speaking on bringing hope in the world, this year’s Rotary International theme. Second place went to 10th grader Anna Oslikova who spoke on the side effects of social media, and fellow 10th grader George Beach took third with a pitch to include experience with wrote learning.

“We began the contest last week” according to Club President Brian Lucas who has been club lead for this activity for several years. “13 members of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) competed at the high school. The top three students are here for the Club finals where they will receive $300, $200 and $100 prizes.”

“We’re fortunate to have teachers like Brian Fisher and Kegan Crider in the school district to organize inside the school” said Lucas.

“Our top speaker will compete for similar prizes against other club winners at a Regional Contest at 2 pm on April 27th in Hancock PA” said Lucas. “After that is the District Contest in Hagerstown on May 16th where the best from over 70 clubs vie for $2000, $1000 and $500 prizes.”
