Spring sports kicked off last week, and a handful of area ball-and-glove teams are off to 2-0 starts out of the gate this season.

No Local.News team has been more potent over the opening week than the Waynesboro softball team, which won its first two games by a combined 34-3 score. Greencastle-Antrim’s softball squad isn’t far behind, with the Blue Devils crunching opponents by a 34-8 margin in their 2-0 start.

Chambersburg’s baseball team improved to 2-0 in the most unusual way last week, by recording a 5-0 win over Carlisle despite being no-hit by the Thundering Herd.

Speaking of Chambersburg, the Trojans probably would have liked to have better weather while hosting last weekend’s Tim Cook Invitational. But the rain-filled invitational didn’t get athletes down, as we counted at least 14 event winners from the Local.News coverage area. Chambersburg’s Jermere Jones (110 hurdles, 4×100 relay) and North Hagerstown’s Ryder Johnston (300 hurdles, long jump) each earned wins in multiple events.

Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News coverage area performed last week:
