Greencastle’s Gary Stuhler, the all-time wins leader at Hagerstown Speedway, drives to victory again

Hagerstown Speedway opened its 70th season on Saturday in the most symbolic way possible, with it’s all-time wins leader scooping up victory.

Gary Stuhler, of Greencastle, drove to his 135th career Super Late Model win at the Hub City oval last weekend, starting sixth and taking the lead at the halfway point and never looking back in the 25-lap feature. He spent the final 10 laps of the race expanding his lead over the field and earning a convincing win over Brian Tavenner and Greencastle’s Scott Palmer.

Joining Stuhler in Victory Lane was Waynesboro’s Jamie Zentmyer, who earned the win in the Pure Stocks feature over Sean Dawson and Keith Koontz.

Finally, Hagerstown’s Crate Late Model feature saw a pair of locals land in the Top 5: Chambersburg’s Steve Lowery (4th) and Greencastle’s Transtan Stoner (5th).

Myers, Kuhn drive to 1-2 finish at Path Valley

Thanks to a rule at Path Valley that imposes a handicap on the winner of the previous week’s race, it was harder than ever for Bradyn Kuhn to make it to the podium last weekend.

Competing in the 270 sprints division, the Greencastle driver moved from sixth to second in his heat race, before the handicap rule forced him to start 12th in the feature. Kuhn embraced the challenge and battled all the way to second place, finishing only behind Fayetteville’s Cory Myers. Chambersburg’s Craig Myers finished in third.

Cameron Defenderfer, of Fayetteville, finished second in the thunder cars feature at Path Valley, while Chambersburg’s Malachi Doyle nailed down a fifth-place finish in the strictly stocks feature.

Fayetteville Flyer takes 4th at Port Royal

Sprint Car Hall of Famer Lance Dewease, also known as the “Fayetteville Flyer,” is still turning quality laps even at 58 years old.

Dewease put his driving skills on display at Port Royal last weekend, cruising to a fourth-place finish after starting the race from the 12th position.

Dewease ran a time of 18.107 seconds in the hot laps, before moving from sixth to third in his heat race.
