A pair of area ballclubs have raced out to considerable leads in both the Mid-Penn Colonial baseball and softball divisions after solid showings last week.

The Waynesboro baseball team claimed two division victories last week, including an extra-innings win over West Perry, to improve to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the Colonial.

In softball, it’s the Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils who lead the Colonial at 5-0 overall, and 3-0 in the division. Chambersburg’s softball team is also unbeaten with a 3-0 overall record and a 1-0 mark for second place in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth.

Speaking of undefeated squads, the Smithsburg boys lacrosse team pushed its record to 6-0 last week with victories over Walkersville (8-6) and Catoctin (13-6). Also off to unblemished starts in track and field are the Waynesboro girls (3-0) and Greencastle-Antrim girls (2-0).

Finally, one last track note: The Smithsburg girls captured the team title at the Zonis Invitational, held at North Hagerstown. The Leopards earned wins in five different events.

Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News coverage area performed last week:
