It was a great week to be a Smithsburg Leopard, especially if you were a member of the school’s boys lacrosse or girls track programs.

Smithsburg’s boys lacrosse team kept the undefeated dream alive last with two victories, including a tightly-contested 11-8 win over Middletown, to improve to 9-0.

As for the Leopards’ girls track squad, they just keep on winning invitationals. Smithsburg’s girls easily conquered the 11-team field at last weekend’s Zimmerman Invitational at Walkersville. The Leopards won seven events and captured the team title with 186.5 points, more than twice that of runner-up Mountain Ridge (90.5).

On the baseball and softball fields, a pair of division-leading Local.News teams overcame their first conference setbacks and remain in the driver’s seat for potential titles.

Waynesboro’s baseball team suffered its first loss in Mid-Penn Colonial Division play last week, but the Indians grinded out two other division wins, including a 2-1 victory over backyard rival Greencastle-Antrim on Saturday, to maintain their first-place standing.

On the softball field, Greencastle-Antrim also took its first ‘L’ in division play, but remains the leader of the Colonial Division after going 2-1 last week.

Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News coverage area performed last week:
