Dewease nails down first win in new ride

Fayetteville’s Lance Dewease has won more than 100 races at Williams Grove Speedway, but the Sprint Car Hall of Famer achieved a first in his latest win on Friday night.

The “Fayetteville Flyer” seized the lead late in the 25-lap, 410 Sprints feature and cruised to the 115th win of his career at Williams Grove. The victory, worth $6,000, was Dewease’s first in the Barry Shearer-owned car.

After a caution-filled opening to the race, Dewease began to work his way up the field, eventually overtaking race leader Troy Wagaman Jr. on the 23rd lap before driving to a 2.472-second victory.

One week prior at Williams Grove, Greencastle’s DJ Myers turned in a solid effort in a Limited Late Models feature. Myers took second in the 25-lap race, applying pressure to the race leader over the final 10 laps. The race came to an end with Trent Brenneman fending off Myers for a 1.063-second win.

Those looking for racing on the local circuits at Hagerstown and Path Valley Speedways have been out of luck, lately, as both tracks have had two straight weekends of rainouts. Path Valley returns to racing on Saturday, while Hagerstown is scheduled to race again on May 18.
