CHAMBERSBURG – The Franklin County Commissioners want to keep motorcyclists safe and have declared May to be Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in Franklin County.

Not only is motorcycle riding a favorite form of transportation, it’s also a popular recreation activity across the commonwealth and the U.S. Pennsylvania is home to nearly 850,000 licensed motorcyclists. With that many motorcyclists on the road, it is important that all motorists remember to share roads and highways responsibly for everyone’s safety. Likewise, motorcyclists can take advantage of free training courses through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) free Motorcycle Safety Program to improve their skills and ultimately reduce the number of motorcycle crashes and fatalities.

“The commissioners are pleased to join PennDOT, Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education of Pennsylvania (ABATE) and the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Dealers Association to promote the safety of motorcyclists across Franklin County and beyond,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst. “While May is recognized as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, it’s important to recognize the importance of motorcycle safety at all times of the year.

By recognizing Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in Franklin County, the commissioners are encouraging all residents to pay attention to motorcycles on county’s the streets and highways and to recognize the importance of staying alert, practicing safe driving techniques and promoting motorcycle safety.
