Franklin County Recognizes Community Contributions Of Salvation Army

CHAMBERSBURG– The Franklin County Commissioners have proclaimed May 13-19, 2024, to be National Salvation Army Week in Franklin County.

The Salvation Army has been serving the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of Franklin County residents for 118 years. Although the organization is most visible during its holiday season Red Kettle campaign, the Salvation Army provides life-changing aid and services 365 days a year. That includes being present wherever the needs are greatest, particularly during times of crisis, where vulnerable individuals are more at risk of becoming homeless, food insecure, addicted or spiritually tired.

To provide those services, the Salvation Army relies on community donations and contributions. As financial pressures of inflation and the rising costs of everyday items continue to affect the lives of everyone, those in need have turned to nonprofit organizations for support and resources. That has put an added strain on these community-supported groups and affected their ability to deliver those much-needed services. The Salvation Army of Chambersburg is not immune to this pressure, as the organization has seen an increase of $500,000 in its services over the last year.

“It’s a privilege to recognize the tremendous impact the Salvation Army has had in serving our community for over a century,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst. “Franklin County residents have a long tradition of supporting neighbors in need, and the Salvation Army is a shining example of how we all can lend a hand through volunteerism, community service or philanthropy to help others.”

By recognizing National Salvation Army Week in Franklin County, the commissioners are urging residents to recognize the impact the Salvation Army of Chambersburg has had on Franklin County and to give back to their communities in similar, personally meaningful ways.
