Tee Off for Furry Friends: CVAS Golf Tournament Returns After 3-Year Hiatus

It’s been about three years, but we are bringing back our golf tournament.

It’s in memory of Mike Krugh, a CVAS board member who passed away far too soon and worked hard every year to put together a golf tournament for our animals. Mike adored his dogs and I loved the stories he would tell me about them.

This year’s golf tournament will be on June 14 at the Caledonia Golf Club in Fayetteville.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 for a scramble tournament.

The fees are $85 per player or $300 if you register a foursome. The fee includes golf, cart, team photos, luncheon and prizes.

The field is limited to 100 players, so if you want to take part, make sure you sign up soon.

There will be six holes for prizes for Closest to the Pin and mulligans and powerballs are also available.

The event is sponsored by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 of Chambersburg and I’m telling you, Don Hershey, who runs that place is one of the hardest working people in this county.

He’s also incredibly generous and just loves his animals.

We still have a variety of sponsorship opportunities available for our golf tournament, including hole sponsors. If you have a beloved family member – two-legged or four-legged – you would like to honor or if you would like to get the name of your business out on the greens, a hole sponsorship would be a great idea. For $100 you can sponsor a hole, which will include a sign that all the golfers can see.

We are also looking for lunch sponsors, cart sponsors, putting green sponsors, water bottle sponsors and business at the tee.

Sponsorships are a great way to have a lot of people see your name or your business.

The more sponsorships we get, the more money we’ll ultimately make for our animals. So if you’re interested in a sponsorship opportunity, check out the golf tournament information on our website, cvas-pets.org or call the shelter at (717) 263-5791.

Lunch will be provided by Dabo-Rye, which is a new food truck in this area. I was able to sample their goodies last weekend at an event and let me tell you, it’s delicious. They call themselves a sandwich fusion food tent. It includes familiar and international flavors and I had their cheese steak sandwich and it was really good. We’re so grateful they were able to help us.

Proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit the animals in our kennels and help us care for them every day. As of this writing, we have more than 200 cats and more than 50 dogs in our care. It takes a lot to look after them and our golf tournament will help make sure we can.

So, if you have some friends who love to golf, please set aside June 14 for a game. For more information, contact Tiffanie Smoyer at cvasbusiness@cvas-pets.org.

And make sure to mark your calendars and dig out those clubs for our golf tournament on Friday, June 14, at the Caledonia Golf Club and we’ll see you on the greens to help our animals!
