Walk for Water. The Rotary Club of Waynesboro will host a Water Walk for Kenya on Saturday, June 1, at 8 a.m. at the Buchanan Automotive Stadium. Participants will walk a 3-mile course, carrying a 1-gallon water container for half the distance to simulate the arduous task of water retrieval faced by villagers in eastern Kenya’s Rift Valley. The event aims to raise funds for Clean Water Kenya, a Pennsylvania non-profit organization, to purchase water filters and rain barrels for the Maasai community. Each $30 registration provides five years of clean water for a family of six in the region.

Celebrate the Welsh! The Conococheague Institute will host the 30th anniversary WelshFest celebration on Saturday, June 1, from 2:30 to 6 p.m. The free community event will feature live Welsh music performances by the Rehoboth Welsh Choir, harpist Lauren Swain, and Forbes Road Frolic. Attendees can enjoy food from vendors like Antietam Dairy, Michaux Brew Co, and Roll Time, as well as local crafts. Historic activities will include baking in a wood-fired oven, archery, traditional games, and exhibits on Welsh settlers.

Play BINGO. The Franklin Fire Company in Chambersburg will host a Mega Cash Bingo event on Saturday, June 1. Doors open at 4 p.m. with a meal served from 4 – 6 p.m. Bingo games start around 6:45 p.m. Ticket purchase ($50) includes admission with reserved seating, a 9-card package for 20 regular $500 games, dinner, and a drink. Additional games like “Winner Take All” and special games can be purchased separately, along with pull tabs, a 50/50 raffle, and extra card packs. No children under 8 are permitted. The event will be held at the Franklin Fire Company Social Hall on 158 W. King St in Chambersburg.

Enjoy Rides, Games and Music. The Great Boonsboro Carnival will take place on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1, at Shafer Park (37 Park Drive) in Boonsboro, MD. The event will feature spectacular major rides as well as popular family rides like the Big Gondola Wheel and kiddie rides. Attendees can enjoy live music from the band Brickyard Road. Unlimited ride wristbands will be available for purchase to enjoy all the carnival rides and attractions. Don’t miss the fireworks on Friday night.

Attend an Art Show. An upcoming art show and sale on Saturday, June 1, will pay tribute to the late Stephen W. Burdette, a local pastor who developed a special bond with first responders in Blue Ridge Summit. Burdette, an artist himself, had been set to become the chaplain for the Blue Ridge Fire & Rescue Squad before his untimely passing in December 2023. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Steve Burdette’s art will be sold at the fire hall at 13063 Monterey Lane in Blue Ridge Summit. Prices range from $5 to $500. Cash sales are preferred.
