CHAMBERSBURG= Students from Franklin County Career and Technology Center (CareerTech) achieved remarkable success at the recent SkillsUSA National Competition, showcasing their exceptional skills and expertise in various technical fields.

The competition, held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, is one of the largest hands-on workforce development events globally, featuring over 6,000 state champions competing in 115 skilled and leadership competitions.

CareerTech students secured top positions in multiple categories, demonstrating their prowess in industrial, agricultural, and creative disciplines. The team of Lakyn Eddy, Keith Russell, and Zethan Sleighter, all from the Welding program, placed 8th in the Career Pathways – Industrial category with their CAM Superline trailer project.

Braden Lehman from the Land and Horticulture program earned 6th place in the Job Skills Demo Open category, while Abigail Moyer from Graphic Communications secured an impressive 5th place finish in her field.

The SkillsUSA Championships, which runs from Tuesday to Thursday during the National Leadership & Skills Conference, serves as the culmination of a year-long process that begins in local SkillsUSA chapters across the country.

Caitlin O’Donnell, Mallory Waltman, and Dave Perry, the SkillsUSA Advisors who chaperoned the CareerTech students, expressed pride in their achievements at this national-level competition.

This success follows recent recognition for Franklin County Career and Tech Center, with one of its advisors being honored as SkillsUSA State Advisor of the Year earlier this year. The SkillsUSA Championships not only rewards students for excellence but also involves industry professionals in directly evaluating student performance, ensuring that classroom training remains relevant to employers’ needs.
