WAYNESBORO – The 2024 Waynesboro Post 15 baseball season draws to a close this week with games Wednesday at home against Chambersburg and Friday on the road at Greencastle. Waynesboro has a league record of 13-3 sitting one game behind 1st place Greencastle. Waynesboro locked up at least a second-place finish on Monday with a 10-2 victory over Biglerville. The top two teams from the Franklin County League earn berths in the Region 4 tournament running July 19 through the 23rd in Hershey.

It’s been one of the hottest seasons Post 15 has played, but the weather hasn’t affected the team’s play, especially after the first six games “We’ve been red hot after a 3-3 start to league play dealing off 10 straight wins,” said Waynesboro manager Dan McCleaf.

Many of the players on the team were members of the Waynesboro Indians varsity squad that tied Shippensburg for the Mid-Penn Colonial Division championship and went on to win two District 3-6A playoff games. Waynesboro pitching has been solidly led by Blake Daywalt, Mason Gochenhour, Bryan Alford, Brody Daywalt, Seth Dodson, and Gunner Shifflett. At the plate, Logan Clapsaddle leads the team with a .341 batting average, while Ryan Jenkins and Ethan Earley have provided pop in the lineup with three home runs each. Earley leads the team in RBIs with 17 with Gochenhour driving in 14. For the first year, Waynesboro has also fielded a Junior team led by Coach Travis Carbaugh. They ended their league season Tuesday night with a 9-5-1 record and a 3rd-place finish.

McCleaf is assisted by Troy Witte, Matt Kahl and Izzy Reed.

The roster for the 2024 Waynesboro American Legion Post 15 baseball team: Seth Dodson, Ethan Earley, Dylan Morgan, Tyler Caron, Logan Clapsaddle, Mason Gochenour, Kellan Smith, Blake Daywalt, Brody Daywalt, Ryan Jenkins, John Kahl, Eric Knepper, Brett Powell, Gunner Shifflett, Bryan Alford, Riley Eaton, Nate Nystrom and Carter Hough.
