Myers grinds for Late Models win at Path Valley

Some days you are the bug, other days you are the windshield.

That was a good way to describe the weekend of racing for Greencastle driver DJ Myers, who competed in two Late Models races in two days at Path Valley Speedway.

Friday evening’s “Night of Power” at Path Valley was a forgettable one for Myers, who crossed the finish line in 19th place. But things turned around on Saturday at the Austin Gelwicks Memorial, which saw Myers grind to Victory Lane over Lane Snook and Taylor Farlling. Myers worked his way into the Top 5 by mid-race, before he surged to the lead over a decisive three-lap stretch.

The win was just what the doctor ordered for Myers, who is now tied for the Path Valley points lead.

Two others bearing the Myers surname — brothers Cory of Fayetteville and Craig of Chambersburg — continued their summer domination at Path Valley in the 270 Sprints. Cory Myers took over the lead early on a restart and never looked back on his way to the win. Craig Myers was just behind for a third-place finish. The winner of the 270 Sprints points race is anybody’s guess as Cory (439), Craig (427), and Greencastle’s Bradyn Kuhn (408) are 1-2-3 in the standings.

Kameron Morral, of Hagerstown, finished as the runner-up in the 600 Sprints and earned the Hard Charger award in the process. Also at Path Valley, Chambersburg’s Rodney Walls was the winner of the Thunder Cars Non-Qualifiers Race.

Hagerstown Speedway’s Saturday night racing program featured drivers from the Local.News area notching several Top 5 finishes. Greencastle’s Cody Kershner drove from seventh to second in the Late Model Sportsman feature, while Chambersburg’s Devin Friese finished second in a Legends feature that included top finishes from Greencastle’s Logan Jones (3rd) and Lincoln Kearchner (5th).

Finally, at Williams Grove Speedway, Fayetteville’s Lance Dewease piloted his 410 Sprints car to a seventh-place finish.

Below is a speedway-by-speedway, race-by-race, look at how local drivers performed last weekend:
