HARRISBURG – State Rep. Rich Irvin (R-Franklin/Huntingdon) announced two upcoming license plate replacement events for residents with damaged or hard-to-read plates in Huntingdon and Shippensburg.

The first event is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Smithfield Fire Hall in Huntingdon. Irvin will partner with Huntingdon County Sheriff Jeff Leonard for this event.

A second event will take place on Friday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southampton Township Municipal Building in Shippensburg. Franklin County Sheriff Ben Sites will join Irvin for this event, which will also feature car seat safety checks conducted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

These events offer area residents an opportunity to replace their license plates free of charge. Normally, replacing a license plate outside the established replacement schedule incurs a $7.50 fee.

For those unable to attend, Irvin’s office advises that constituents can apply for a new plate at any time using PennDOT form MV-46. The completed form, signed by a law enforcement officer or certified safety inspector, can be submitted to Irvin’s district offices for processing.

Residents seeking more information can contact Irvin’s Huntingdon office at 814-644-2996 or the Shippensburg office at 717-532-1707. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has been implementing a statewide license plate replacement program, aiming to reduce opportunities for license plate fraud and prevent confusion over vehicle identification.
