WAYNESBORO – Enchanting fun for all ages awaits those attending this weekend’s eighth annual Waynesboro Wizarding Weekend. And this year, the event even features a visit from an actress in a Harry Potter film! Here are some of the magical things those attending can expect:

Meet Actress Ellie Darcey-Alden

Ellie played Lilly Evans (who became the mother of Harry Potter) during the flashback scenes of the 2011 film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part 2.” She will be selling autographs and photos during her visit. She’ll be available at various locations, and her schedule can be found at MainstreetWaynesboro.org.

Borogon Alley to Offer Wizarding Supplies

Everything burgeoning wizards may need can be found from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at bustling Borogon Alley, featuring more than 30 vendors. Among vendors planning to come are a Dragon’s Chest, Alley Cat Chocolates, Black Magic Crochet, Once Upon a Wand, The Conjuring Moon, Wizardly Creations and many others.

Magical High Tea

Tranquilatea Tea Room will offer High Tea on Friday and Saturday. Reservations are required for high tea at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. Guests may reserve a spot by phoning 717-765-8327.

Plant Your Own Mandrake

During the class you will decorate a pot and plant you own mandrake. Professor Ariana from the Little Greenhouse will be your guide. Register and pay the $15 fee at Eventbrite.com.

Magical Creatures Scavenger Hunt

Take a magical walk through downtown Waynesboro, while you find items to mark in your Passport. Pick up your Passport during the first Family Fun Night from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at 25 E. Main St. Turn in completed Passports for a prize, then place them into a Golden Drum for more prize drawings at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Movies at the Waynesboro Theatre

Harry Potter movies will be offered, featuring four films starting Friday and running through Sunday. The theater is at 75 W. Main St., and tickets are all $8. For a full lineup, patrons may visit waynesborotheatre.org.

Professor Charles’ Magical Paint Parties

These classes will be offered for children from 10-12 on Saturday. The cost is $35 for all supplies, and an owl painting on wood will be the selection. The adult class will be from 1-3 on Saturday. Again, the cost is $35 for all supplies, and a painting on wood of Harry will be the selection. Both classes will be at the American Legion, 63 E. Main St. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Eventbrite.com. Seats are limited. (Adults may sign up for the children’s class and vice versa.)

Harry Potter Pub Crawl

This event, in its second year, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, featuring a costume contest, raffle prizes and visits to eight local nightspots! Tickets at $30 each are limited and may be purchased at Eventbrite.com or MainstreetWaynesboro.org. Those attending must be 20 or older.

Other activities

For a $5 fee, collected when you arrive, you will learn from Miss Emily from Around the Rock all about making potion bottles.

STEM activities will be offered by Miss Heather from Shine a Light.

Miss Jen will offer face painting.

And please come hungry. Roll-Time Food Truck and Chillin’ Out Snowballs also will be present.

A detailed list of activities is available at MainstreetWaynesboro.org.

And while you are visiting downtown, don’t forget to show support for downtown stores and restaurants in Waynesboro, which each offer their own brands of magic.
