The Waynesboro Youth League 10U “A” All-Star team wrapped up the tournament season as they competed in the Bellwood-Antis Youth Baseball 10U Summer Slam. Waynesboro advanced to the semi-finals but lost for the second time to the eventual tournament champion Maroon 10U from the Altoona Area Baseball Association.

The previous weekend, the WYL 10U “A” All-Star team won the “Mayhem on the Mountain 10U All-Star tournament in Blue Ridge Summit.

Waynesboro cruised to three straight victories before facing the host team Pen Mar 10U All-Stars in the championship game.

On Saturday they defeated the Clarence Boyd 10U All-Stars by a score of 20 to 5 before taking a lopsided game from the Waynesboro 10U B All-Stars 18-1.

On Sunday they won a re-match with Clarence Boyd with a 15 – 0 shutout, setting up a meeting with the host team Pen Mar 10U All-Stars in the championship game.

Waynesboro jumped to an early 3 -0 lead against Pen Mar. That remained the score until the home team Pen Mar came to bat in the bottom of the last inning. Not willing to go down without a fight, Pen Mar pushed across two runs but left the tying run stranded at second base as the final out was recorded. Final score: Waynesboro 3, Pen Mar 2.

The Waynesboro 10U All-Star team competed in five tournaments. It was crowned champions in three of them and finished as the runner-up in another. The team finished this year’s tournament season with 17 wins and only four losses.
