Get Creative — Saturday, Aug. 17, the Council for the Arts in Chambersburg will host the “Artsy Chaos Club” led by artist Barbara Randall. The event allows children from elementary to teenage years to engage in creative and “chaotic” art projects. Known for her innovative repurposing projects, Randall encourages participants to wear clothing suitable for artistic messes. The session will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the Council for the Arts, 103 N. Main St., Chambersburg.

Discover bow technology. The Conococheague Institute in Mercersburg will host an event focused on arrowheads and bow technology used by indigenous hunters in the region on Saturday, Aug. 17. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. visitors can explore the exhibit and participate in live archery sessions at 11 a.m., 1 p.m.,and 3 p.m., with bows available for all ages. This hands-on experience aims to educate attendees about the historical significance of bow technology while allowing them to try archery themselves. The event is free, and no RSVP is required.

Dive into aviation excitement. The Open Airplane Day on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Hagerstown Aviation Museum offers a rare opportunity for families to explore the historic Fairchild Dome Hangar and engage with the rich aviation history of the region. Visitors can climb aboard various museum aircraft and view exhibits that highlight the contributions of local men and women to the aviation industry. For those seeking a more exhilarating experience, there is an option to enjoy open cockpit flying in a 1943 Fairchild PT-19 Primary Trainer with a $200 donation. This event promises a day filled with educational and thrilling activities for all ages.

Dance in the Afternoon Sun. Live big band music and dancing are featured on Sunday, Aug. 18, from 2 to 5 p.m. The dance pavilion in Pen Mar Park in Cascade, Md., will be filled with the best of big band era ballroom classics. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and dancing shoes to enjoy this community event organized by Washington County Parks & Recreation.

Experience the thrill of Rouzerfest. The 19th Annual Rouzerfest Car and Truck Show, will take place on Sunday, Aug. 18, at Red Run Park in Waynesboro. This event welcomes all years, makes and models of vehicles, including rat rods, street rods, classic cars, and trucks. Attendees can look forward to awards for the top 25 cars and 10 trucks, alongside a variety of family-friendly activities such as free hot dogs for kids, a moon bounce and face painting. Registration opens at 8 a.m., with kids’ activities running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., culminating in an awards ceremony at 2:30. The event will proceed rain or shine.
